"History speaks through generations" – under this slogan, the Institute of National Remembrance, Łódź Branch, invites you to the Congress of National Future, which will take place on October 15-16, 2025, in the Sports Bay of the Lodz University of Technology.
October 15 - 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
October 16 - 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
This unique event is aimed at audiences of all ages – from the youngest to the elderly. Its goal is to present Poland's recent history in an engaging and diverse format: through discussion panels, educational games, multimedia exhibitions, historical reenactments, workshops, performances, programs dedicated to teachers, and meetings with interesting guests.
We offer a journey through history that appeals to both those who remember the events of the 20th century and to young people learning through modern technologies, multimedia, fun, and creative workshops. The program has been designed so that everyone – regardless of age – can find something for themselves.
The initiative to organize the congress is a response to the results of social research commissioned by the Institute of National Remembrance, which revealed the need for a broader and more accessible presentation of Polish history. The event will be an opportunity to reflect on what modern and engaging history education should look like.
We will meet in a place where science, innovation, and tradition combine to show that history doesn't have to be just dates and facts – it can become an inspiration, a source of pride, and a guide for building the future.
We cordially invite you – be our guests!

"How to fight for freedom? From the Solidarity to US special missions"
Participants:
A conversation with a special guest – Tomasz Dzieran "Drago," who carried out his mission to fight for freedom first as a member of the democratic opposition in Poland (convicted and imprisoned by the communist authorities) and later as a soldier of the American Special Forces in Iraq. There, he collaborated with the Polish GROM unit, integrating soldiers from both formations. His extraordinary story even became the subject of a book titled "My Friend Drago." This discussion with the veteran aims to illustrate the different ways of fighting for independence and the different paths to freedom. |

The reflection will focus on the Germanization policy of the occupying forces in the territories incorporated into the Third Reich and the situation of the Polish population in that area. The discussion will also focus on how the history of the camp was described during the communist era, as well as the trials of the camp "educators" responsible for the suffering of the youngest prisoners. |

"Rock music of the 1980s as an expression of protest against communist reality"
Participants:
A conversation with guest Tomasz Budzyński, vocalist and leader of the band Armia, also known from the legendary band Siekiera, which was a sensation at the Jarocin Festival in 1984. The topic will be the role of rock music in the waning days of communism in the 1980s. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Tomasz Toborek, co-author of the album Jarocin w tarczie bezpieki (Jarocin in the Lens of the Security Service). The panelists will explore the most important phenomena in Polish rock music and the struggles of artists in confronting the oppressive authorities. The discussion will also focus on censorship and the difficulties of releasing records and organizing concerts. The blurring of the rock scene over time will be explored, between the official rock scene presented in the media and the independent music scene, whose performers primarily met at countercultural festivals, including the legendary Jarocin. |

"Youth Solidarity – Strikes, Street Resistance and the Role of Youth"
Participants:
The discussion, "Young Solidarity – Strikes, Street Resistance, and the Role of Youth," will explore the diverse forms of youth engagement in resistance to the communist authorities. The starting point will be a look back at the February 1971 strike by Łódź textile workers – an event of symbolic significance for the city of women and the textile industry, which has become a permanent part of the history of workers' protests in the Polish People's Republic. The panelists will pay particular attention to student strikes in Łódź: both the one in early 1981, which led to the establishment of the Independent Students' Association, and the December 1981 protest, organized after the imposition of martial law. The activities of "Solidarity" will also be discussed, both nationally and locally, highlighting key figures in the Łódź opposition. The final part of the discussion will explore the changing ways in which young people expressed dissent in the second half of the 1980s, including the role of street art and happenings, with a focus on the Orange Alternative phenomenon. The panel will attempt to answer the question of how young people—often despite risk and repression—became a significant force for social and political change in Poland in the twilight of the communist era. |
New Technologies
In the New Technologies Zone, participants will explore the history of the Polish Air Force during World War II in the educational gaming project "Aviators – War in the Skies," crack Bolshevik ciphers, and eliminate enemy armored trains in "Cypher Game." As team commanders, they will lead their team through the 63 days of the Warsaw Uprising in the game "Warsaw Rising."
Exhibitions
During the Congress of the National Future, participants will have the opportunity to explore exhibitions prepared by the Institute of National Remembrance. These displays, using various techniques (traditional, 3D, and multimedia), offer a unique opportunity to journey through Poland's recent history, viewing it from the perspective of both major events and the fate of ordinary people. Each exhibition transports the viewer to a different world and allows for a deeper understanding of the complex experiences that have shaped our country's history.
Education
The Education Zone is a space full of activities for anyone interested in Poland's recent history. Visitors will find attractions at over a dozen stands dedicated to discovering the most important events in the history of Gdańsk, Łódź, Poznań, and Silesia. There will be opportunities to play board games, an indoor version of a city game, and a specially developed spatial tabletop game, "History on Łódź Trails," based on a map and archival photos. Visitors to the Education Zone will learn how to create moving cards, stop-motion animations, and comics, or how to assemble armored vehicle models. They will learn methods for searching for underwater war wrecks or test their encryption skills. Activities on Polish national symbols are available for younger students. We invite you to visit the following zones: Education Zone, IPN Archive Zone, Commemoration Zone, Search Zone, Games Zone.
